Montana Stays Dry Today With Showers, Storm Chances and Possible Eastern Severe Weather Expected by Tuesday and Wednesday

Clouds building over Montana with a chance of rain and storms later in the week

BILLINGS, MT — Much of Montana will stay dry today with temperatures running close to normal for mid-July. Highs are expected to reach the 60s and 70s before a better chance for moisture moves in tomorrow.

Storm Chances Build East

Showers and storms are expected to develop tomorrow, with the strongest weather potential focused on the far eastern part of the state. Forecasts call for only a marginal risk of severe weather, but damaging wind gusts and small hail could still occur.

Snow Possible In Mountains

Higher elevations could also see snow Tuesday into Wednesday as colder air works through the region. The forecast notes that some precipitation may not reach the ground because of dry air in place.

Rain Chances Repeat

Weather patterns this week keep colder air over western Montana while warmer air stays farther east, creating repeated chances for rain. That setup is expected to linger through the week before temperatures begin warming again by Friday.

Forecast Through Friday

The main theme for the week is a back-and-forth stretch of moisture chances rather than a single widespread storm. Even with the rain and storm potential, the overall temperature trend remains near average before a warmer finish to the week.
