MISSOULA, MT — One person was killed and another was injured Sunday morning in a head-on crash involving an SUV and a semitruck near Big Arm, according to the Polson Rural Fire District. Crews were called out around 6 a.m. to the scene near Walking Horse Lane on U.S. Highway 93.
Crash Scene and Response
Firefighters found an SUV and a fuel-hauling semitruck with a pup trailer that had collided head-on. Officials said the tanker was empty when the crash happened.
The semitruck driver got out without help and was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
SUV Driver Killed
Fire crews had to extricate the SUV driver from the wreckage. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name.
Highway Closed For Hours
U.S. Highway 93 was shut down for about four hours while investigators worked the scene and cleanup crews cleared debris. The closure affected traffic along the route near Big Arm during the morning hours.
Cause Still Unknown
The cause of the crash has not been released. The Polson Rural Fire District said it extended condolences to the families of those involved.
