RATHDRUM, ID — Idaho State Police is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that happened just before 2:30 p.m. on June 5 at State Highway 41 and Wyoming Avenue in Kootenai County. The white 2016 Volkswagen Jetta was heading north on Highway 41 when the driver lost control and hit the traffic light support pole at Wyoming Avenue.
Driver Identified by State Police
State police said the driver was a 16-year-old female from Rathdrum and that she was wearing a seat belt. Authorities said she was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
She was removed from the wreck and taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where she died the following day from her injuries.
No Signs of Impairment
Investigators said alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a role in the crash. The case remains under investigation as troopers continue to review what led to the loss of control.
