Crash on Highway 3
FARMINGTON, MN — A 19-year-old Faribault man died Sunday in a head-on collision south of Farmington in Dakota County. The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Highway 3.
Investigators say a southbound SUV crossed the centerline and hit a northbound car.
Victim and drivers identified
The man who died was identified as Adin Nathaniel Castle of Faribault. He was riding as a passenger in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of that car was identified as 18-year-old Arianna Grace Hess of Farmington.
Injuries after the wreck
Hess was taken to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol. The SUV driver, 36-year-old David James Miller of Oakdale, was also taken to Regions.
Officials said all three people involved were wearing seatbelts.
Alcohol remains under review
The State Patrol says investigators have not yet determined whether alcohol was involved. That part of the case remains open as the crash report is completed.
The collision shut down a stretch of Highway 3 long enough for emergency responders and investigators to work the scene.
What investigators say
At this point, authorities have only said the SUV entered the opposite lane before the impact. No further details about what caused the vehicle to cross the centerline have been released.
The State Patrol is handling the investigation.
